SPANISH 2: CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
V. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS, POLICIES & PROCEDURES
ALL PCHS student expectations apply to this class! Your attitude and willingness to speak in Spanish during class will determine your success. I have set very high expectations for each of you and believe you will go above and beyond them. You will work hard in this class and we will also do many fun activities while learning the language.
1. Respect: Respect the rights and property of others by showing appropriate care of this room and its contents and by being sensitive to the needs and values of others—this includes thoughts, opinions, and answers. Students may not infringe on another student’s right to learn or the teacher’s right to teach
Violation #2 - Detention
Violation #3 - Detention and loss of privilege to take device home for the period of 20 school days.
2. Belong: Be in your seats and ready to work when the bell rings (not as it is ringing), or you will be marked tardy. Remain in your assigned seats (unless you have permission to leave them for a class activity) until the dismissal bell rings. *3 tardies = 1 absence & detention.
3. Prepare: Bring all required materials and assignments to class each day. Supplies include a 3-ring binder, tab dividers (at least 10), writing utensils, a highlighter, verb sheets, and a pocket folder.
4. Work: Always give every task your best effort. Be on task at all times and work only on Spanish during this class. Finish your assignments and study regularly. Written work must be legible or it will not be given credit. You are expected to complete your own assignments. Cheating on an assignment is handled with a failing grade on that particular assignment. Cheating on an exam will result in an F and notification of dean and parents
5. Participate: Speak Spanish first and as much as possible. Get your hand up! Volunteer! Participation in Spanish class is absolutely necessary in order to reach the goals listed on the first page of this syllabus. We learn Spanish by speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Set your minds on Spanish when you enter this class; do your best to be interested in the materials and activities, and participation will become natural.

Percentage Grading Scale
100%-96% A 83%-80% B- 69%-67% D+
95%-90% A- 79%-77% C+ 66%-64% D
89%-87% B+ 76%-74% C 63%-60% D-
86%-84% B 73%-70% C- 59%- F
Weighted Grading System
Tests: 25%
Quizzes: 25%
Projects: 20%
Homework & Daily Work (in-class): 20%
Oral Proficiency (using Spanish in class): 10%
Each assignment is meaningful. It is important to make the effort to get each one in and to your advantage to get it in on time. Keep returned assignments until the quarter ends to prepare for tests and as evidence if any discrepancy arises between your records and the grade book.
Daily Work: In-class tasks will be collected daily in the “tarea” tray on my desk and will be worth points for being done carefully and correctly. If partially done or undone, no credit will be given.
Homework: Students must have each homework assignment completed before class and with them on the assigned due date. Students should place assignments in the “tarea” tray on my desk upon entering class, unless you were absent and/or the assignment is late. Then the assignment goes into the “ausente/tarde” tray on my desk. If a homework assignment is handed in 1 day late, the student may receive partial credit, but after that no credit will be given.
Projects: Students must have each project completed before class and with them on the assigned due date, otherwise the project will be considered late. If a project is handed in late, the student will lose one letter grade for each day late.
Community Connection: This is also referred to as a semester project since Spanish students must complete one each semester in order to pass this course. The primary purpose of this project is to meet Goal 5 of the World Language Standards.
Buddy System for Make-up Work: Each person will be assigned a homework buddy. This person is responsible for all assignments, projects, quizzes, tests etc. given on the day their buddy is absent. There is a stack of trays next to my desk with folders labeled by class. You will put in the blue folder for your hour any make-up work your buddy will have upon his/her return. Make sure the following information is at the top of each assignment: absentee’s name & date of absence. Students returning from being absent are responsible for taking the initiative to come in outside of class to make up work. I will not be reminding you of work due.
Extra Credit: Extra credit will not change more than .36 on a 4.0 scale. For example, a B could only be raised to a B+ using extra credit earned. Extra credit will not carry over from one quarter to another.
IX. ENTRANCE & EXIT PROCEDURES
Arrival: Students need to be seated before the bell rings or they will be marked tardy.
Tardies: *3 tardies = 1 absence & detention.
Dismissal: Students need to remain seated in assigned seats (unless given permission to leave them for a class activity) until the bell rings.
X. PASSES
Students will be allowed 3 hall passes per quarter. They may use the passes to retrieve a forgotten assignment or course materials from their locker or to use the bathroom. Passes that are not used are worth extra credit. Extra credit will be prorated according to the number of passes remaining at the end of the quarter.
